How to Download Your VA Records
VA records are all the medical notes, exam results, decisions, and documents the Department of Veterans Affairs has created about you after you left the military. These records show your current diagnoses, your treatment history, what the VA has already granted, and what the VA has denied. They also show how your conditions have changed over time. VA records are important because they help your provider see the full picture of your health and understand exactly where your claim stands. These records guide us on what needs a Nexus, what needs an increase, and what evidence is missing from your file.
You can get almost everything the VA has on you from your VA.gov account in one visit. You will need a phone or computer with internet and your VA.gov login.

- In Health Records find Blue Button or Download my health records.
- Select Download or View report.
- When asked what to include, choose All available data or Full summary.

- Open that section.
- Download any report that lists X rays, MRIs, CT scans, or other imaging.
- Save as PDF and upload it to us.
Download C&P exams when they are visible
Some C and P exams show up in Health Records. Others are only found inside your claim. Try both places.
Option one — through Health Records:
- In Notes or Documents look for entries labeled Compensation and Pension or C and P.
- Download those notes as part of your Blue Button or notes export.
Option two — through the Claims area:
- Go back to the VA.gov main menu.
- Click Disability or Claims.
- Click View claims or Your claims and appeals.
- Open each completed claim one at a time.
- Look for a tab or link called Documents or Files we used.
- Download any file that looks like an exam or medical opinion.
- Save and upload those PDFs to us.
Download VA decision letters when available
These explain what the VA granted, denied, and why.
- While still in the Claims area, look for any claim that shows a Decision letter or Download letter button.
- Click Download letter.
- Save the PDF and upload it to us.
- Repeat for every closed claim that has a decision letter link.
Medication list
If possible we also want your VA medication list.
- In Health Records look for Medications or Prescriptions.
- Download your current and past medication list as a PDF.
- Upload it to us.
Upload everything
Once you have downloaded all of the above:
- Go to our upload portal or follow the instructions we gave you for sending files.
- Upload every PDF you just saved.
- Do not worry about sorting or naming them perfectly.
- We will organize everything on our side.
